REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE

Based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada RDLong Computers Limited is dedicated to e-waste reuse and recycling for the general consumer, small business, and corporations alike.  Our mandate is to make available a complete recycling service to ensure that obsolete and unneeded electronic items and the potentially hazardous chemicals that they contain are kept out of our already overworked land fill sites.

Whether you are environmentally conscious, residents of Ottawa looking for a location to drop off your old computer system or a corporation looking for an electronics recycling service, we would be pleased to talk to you about our company and the services we provide.

Our Mission:

To educate our customer to do it right the first time. The more the people understand about the recycling of electronics the easier the problem becomes. Build the base for a long term relationship and commitment with consumers, small business, corporations, and the recycling facilities that process these materials. We are committed to diverting end-of-life electronic waste from landfills and solid waste facilities into alternate streams wherever possible.

These alternate streams include:

  1. Testing and cleaning of complete units and salvaged components for resale.
  1. Disassembly and environmentally friendly disposal of electronics assemblies, metal and plastics, forwarding these component parts and assemblies (CRT monitors) to recycling facilities for disposal in an approved manner.
  1. Distribution of complete cleaned and tested units to provide access for users who would otherwise not have a computer. Computers that still some life are stripped of data, tested and returned to service. For a small service fee some of these units are provided to organizations such as The Anti-Poverty Project (TAPP) and go to provide access to a computer for users who would otherwise not have access.

Associations:

  1. Through our association with Heartwood House (www.heartwoodhouse.ca), home to sixteen nonprofit charitable organizations local area residents are able to drop off donations of unwanted electronics. This association is a win-win for everyone, not only does this help us to meet our commitment, but the Ottawa community (and the environment) wins by keeping these unwanted potentially hazardous items out of the landfill.  For their collection efforts Heartwood House receives part of the proceeds from these donations which are then used to benefit the community of Heartwood House and the community at large.
  1. Through our association with The Anti-Poverty Project (www.tapp.org/intro.html) (TAPP) computers, that have reached the end of their usefulness to some are returned to service.  Computers received through services such as those provide by RDLong Computers and donations of surplus technology from other sources TAPP provides computer hardware, software, and education to centers allowing them to make available computer and Internet access to community organizations and facilities used by low income individuals throughout the National Capital Region. Members of these various communities are able to develop their individual computer skills, thereby increasing their employability, self-esteem, and aid in the creation of social equalities.
